Consortium Progress
The WCCCC was officially formed in September of 2004. We have taken great strides as a cancer control partnership. From obtaining planning funds, to drafting, finalizing and implementing a plan to decrease the burden of cancer in Wyoming, we have shown the state that we are serious about Wyoming people and their health.
Here is a chronological list of successes we have made along the way:
2003
- A Comprehensive Cancer Control Steering Committee was formed;
- Process for a Steering Committee was developed; and
- A decision to apply for CDC planning funds was determined.
2004
- July- CDC funds were obtained;
- September- First stakeholder meeting held in Casper, Wyoming;
- WCCCC formed; and
- CCC Workgroups began meeting monthly to determine Wyoming’s priorities to decrease the impact of cancer in the state.
2005
- January- A CCC Program Manager was hired within the Wyoming Department of Health;
- February- Application for continued funding for planning efforts was submitted to the CDC;
- May- WCCCC workgroups provided recommendations for the state cancer plan;
- June-August- Draft plan created;
- July- Year II planning funds received ($150,000);
- September- Plan finalized and sent to print;
- October- Plan unveiled at the 1 st Annual Wyoming Cancer Conference; and
- November- CCC Steering Committee met to discuss implementation funding for the state cancer plan; and
- December- plan made available electronically.
2006
- January- WCCCC met and formed “implementation” workgroups;
- February- Implementation funding application submitted to CDC;
- March-58 th Wyoming State Legislature signed Joint Resolution in support of CCC and Survivorship Efforts;
- April-July- Evaluation plan drafted;
- July- CDC Implementation dollars received ($253,610);
- August- Outreach Specialist hired for WDH CCC program; and
- September- Opinion Editorial published in Wyoming Tribune Eagle and Casper Star Tribune promoting CCC efforts.
