2011-2012 Workgroups
Prostate Cancer Task Force
- Continue to increase education about prostate cancer in order to make involved decisions about testing, treatment and after-treatment options to enhance quality of life
- Increase and promote early detection of prostate cancer
- Collaborate with WCCCC and other state organizations, healthcare providers, groups and citizens to make prostate cancer a public health care priority in Wyoming
Childhood Cancer
- Plan and host Wyoming’s first childhood cancer camp Summer 2012
- Sell cookbooks to raise $$ for camp
Tobacco Prevention
- Work with Comprehensive Cancer Control Program to develop a Wyoming data brief highlighting the burden of tobacco-related cancers
- Collaborate with WCRS staff to support implementation of a school-based awareness pilot project focusing on cancer risk factors (nutrition, tobacco use, physical activity, etc.)
- Plan and host additional community forums initially implemented by work group in 2010-2011
Palliative Care
- Work with End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) and ELNEC-CORE trained nurses in Wyoming to plan/develop a train the trainer program
- Special focus will be given to pediatric palliative care services
- Expand 2012 WCRS Resource Guide review to include identification of pediatric hospice/palliative care resources available in Wyoming as well as psychosocial support mechanisms for children and families impacted by cancer
- Survey hospitals about end-of-life care for children with cancer
Nutrition
- Prevention Goal 3, Objective 2, Strategy 1 = Promote/support changes in school and day care programs to increase availability/promotion of fruits and veggies
- Research programs/curriculum that could be customized to meet the needs of Wyoming (similar to what was done with sun safety programs)
